I knew from around the age of 15 that I wanted to have a career in the food industry and had my eyes set on Culinary School. The kitchen is where I’ve truly enjoyed spending time – experimenting, creating, learning, and of course tasting. I soon realized my love for baking and decorating. My mom had taken cake decorating classes when I was younger and one day I decided to pull out her supplies and give it a try myself. I immediately fell in love with the artistic craft and would find any reason to bake and decorate a cake or special dessert.
After graduating high school, I moved to Portland, OR, and attended Western Culinary Institute for the Le Cordon Bleu Patisserie & Baking program. My love for baking and decorating continued to grow and would encompass every job I’d have for the following 15 years. Even when I was working 40 hours a week decorating cakes, I would come home and pour hours into elaborate cakes for my family, challenging myself to outdo what I made the year before. It was my creative outlet, my job, and my hobby all in one and there was nothing else I wanted to be doing.
“I was inspired to start Sweet Kitchen Cravings so I could create and share my collection of sweet treats, incredible flavor combinations, and delicious recipes”
After working many years in the baking industry I became incredibly burnt out and made the difficult choice to take some time away from what I had spent over half of my life dedicated to. I was unsure if I ever wanted to return to it but I eventually realized that the passion and love for my craft still shined through. I knew that I was meant to keep doing this in some capacity and I felt that I still had so much more to offer.
One thing I kept coming back to was how much I’ve always enjoyed sharing delicious and beautiful food with friends and family. Giving the treats I made to loved ones brought me joy from the first day I picked up a piping bag. Those sweet moments have made all the failures and hard times worth it. I knew that I wanted to share this passion with others and expand beyond those close to me.
I was inspired to start Sweet Kitchen Cravings so I could create and share my collection of sweet treats, incredible flavor combinations, and delicious recipes. Plus all the tips, and tricks I’ve learned firsthand. Tested and trusted recipes. A whole lot of sweet treats and some savory ones too. I’m so glad you found your way here and I hope you’re about to find your new favorite recipe to share with loved ones!
