Ooey-gooey marshmallows meet crunchy Oreo cookies in these irresistible Oreo Rice Krispie Treats. Soft, chewy, and packed with that signature cookies-and-cream flavor, these are an instant crowd favorite. This easy, no-bake recipe is one that everyone is sure to love, from kids to grown-ups!

Ingredient Notes

Rice Cereal: A staple in the recipe – either name-brand or store-brand will work.

Oreo Cookies: I use regular Oreo cookies, but you can use any variety or flavor.

Butter: Unsalted butter is what I prefer to use. You could use salted butter here instead, but be sure to omit the salt.

Marshmallows: Mini marshmallows will work better for this recipe. You could use jumbo marshmallows for the 16 ounces that are melted down, but definitely go with the mini size for the 4 ounces that are mixed in, since they aren’t going to melt fully.

Vanilla: A splash for flavor.

Salt: Just a bit helps offset the sweetness

How to Make Oreo Rice Krispie Treats

  1. Chop the Oreos. You can roughly chop the Oreos with a knife or place the Oreos in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

  2. Mix the cereal and cookies. In a large bowl, combine the rice krispies, chopped oreos, and 4 ounces of mini marshmallows.
  1. Melt the butter. In a large pot over medium-low heat, melt 4 ounces (1 stick) of butter.

  2. Add marshmallows. Add the remaining marshmallows (20 ounces to be exact) to the melted butter. Turn off the heat and stir well until the marshmallows are completely melted. Stir in the vanilla and salt.

  3. Add the cereal and cookies. Add the cereal/Oreo/marshmallow mixture to the melted marshmallows and combine until everything is well mixed and coated in marshmallow.
  1. Press into the pan. Add the treat mixture to a 9-inch square pan coated with nonstick cooking spray and lined with parchment paper. Use a rubber spatula or piece of parchment paper lightly coated in nonstick cooking spray to help press the mixture evenly into the pan. Sprinkle more chopped Oreos over the top and press them into the bars.
  1. Cut and serve. Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting. You could also pop them in the fridge to speed up the process. Cut with a sharp knife into squares and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I store the treats?

Store the krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature. If you stack them in more than one layer, use parchment paper in between so they don’t stick to each other.

Can these be made in a 9” x 13” pan instead?

Yes! You can use this same recipe, but spread it in a 9”x13” rectangle baking pan instead of a 9” square pan. The treats won’t be as thick as the ones pictured in this post, but you should get more servings with the larger pan.

What kind of Oreos should I use?

I use just the classic regular Oreo, but for a fun variation, you could use any flavor, like golden Oreos, peanut butter Oreos, or even birthday cake Oreos would be delicious in these.

Can these be made with brown butter?

Yes, brown butter would be a delicious addition to these treats. After melting the butter, continue cooking to brown the butter until it’s golden, and brown specks form on the bottom. Then add the marshmallows and finish the treats following the recipe instructions.

Baking Tip: Weigh Your Ingredients!

I highly recommend using a kitchen scale to weigh your ingredients rather than using measuring cups because it is the most accurate way to bake. Weighing your ingredients will give you more consistent results with your recipes and a better success rate, every time. Using a scale also saves you dishes which means easier cleanup! I provide gram measurements in all my recipes and this is the scale I love to use.
